Greater El Monte Community Hospital Nurses and community supporters held a socially-distanced silent protest outside the hospital to alert El Monte residents of the possible temporary closure of the hospital’s Labor & Delivery unit.

As the only hospital in the city, local residents rely on its critical medical services, including the Mother/Baby unit. Patients coming to the hospital to deliver their babies would now need to be quickly transferred to another hospital in another city, which can be extremely dangerous. If too dilated, babies might need to be delivered in the E.R., where staff are not trained experts in labor and delivery.
